At the Post office
To avoid delays in Post Offices it is important to bring your reminder notice with you as the barcode on the notice is scanned at the counter.
Online
You need your TV Reference number and PIN from your most recent reminder notice to logon and make your payment.
By Phone
You need your TV Reference number from your most recent reminder notice.
Do I need a separate TV Licence for my holiday home?
Yes you will need a separate TV licence for your holiday home. Any premises with a television needs a TV Licence. In the case of apartments each apartment needs a separate licence.
If I purchase a TV Licence through the call centre, how and when will I receive my TV Licence?
A TV Licence will be posted to your address 10 to 14 days after the licence was purchased.
Who do I contact if I have a query about a TV Licence?
If you have a query you should contact your local TV Licence Records Office.
I want to pay through Direct Debit, how do I do this?
Fill in the mandate form and return to your local TV Licence Records Office.
I think I may be entitled to a free licence, how do I go about getting this?
You should contact the Department of Social Protection (new window) at LoCall 1890 500 000 to get an application form for the Households Benefits Package. Fill this in and return it to the Department, Free Schemes Section, Pension Services Office, Freepost, College Rd., Sligo. They will issue the free licence to you.

Do I need a licence if my television set has not been "upgraded" to receive digital signals?
An analogue television set, with or without a set-top box, will still require a Television Licence.
The definition of a Television set (Section 140 (1) of the Broadcasting Act 2009)
"television set" means any electronic apparatus capable of receiving and exhibiting television broadcasting services broadcast for general reception ( whether or not its use for that purpose is dependent on the use of anything else in conjunction with it ) and any software or assembly comprising such apparatus and other apparatus.
I want to change my address but I do not have my TV Reference number and PIN. What should I do?
If you do not have your 17 digit TV Reference number and 5 digit PIN, you should email or write to your local TV Licence Records office requesting a licence transfer.
You can find these contact details on the upper right hand side of your TV Licence correspondence.
Please include the following details in your request:
Your Name (i.e Licence holder's name)
Old address in full - including, if appropriate, house name and number
New address in full - including, if appropriate, house name and number
Previous occupant's name (of your new premises) if applicable so that we can remove the record from the National TV Licence database

I only watch TV content on a monitor, Do I need a TV Licence?
You require a TV Licence in the following circumstances:
Connecting a SKY/Virgin Media/Saorview or any type of Digital TV Receiver to your monitor
Viewing any TV Programmes broadcast for general reception over broadband (e.g. Eir TV/Vodafone TV) on your monitor requires a TV Licence.
Do you have a television set in your office or business premises?
If you have a television set at your business premises it is your legal obligation to have a valid TV Licence. There is no requirement to have a TV Licence for each set as one TV Licence covers all TV sets at a single premises.You must also have a valid TV Licence even if the television set is just being used for meetings or for training purposes.
I have received a TV Licence notice but I do not have a TV Set in my home/business premises?
You need to fill out the Statutory Declaration form and return to your local TV Licence Records office.
Please Note: This Declaration will be verified by a TV Licence Inspector in due course.
